A group of security settings can be applied using Security Editor to a universe (.unx) which is published in the repository. Profiles are stored independently in repository from the universe and they are deleted when the universe is deleted.

The shorcut connection (.cns) file is saved on local file system and it references a secured connection in a repository. It contains repository address, port number, type of connetion and an ID.
Connection shortcut is used for creating or modifying any business layer or data foundation that uses a connection stored in the repository.
There are 2 ways you can create connection shortcut.
1. File -> Publish -> Publish connection to repository.
While connection is published, it will ask you to create connection shortcut.
