SAP HANA Hierarchies

In SAP HANA we have 2 types of Hierarchy

SAP HANA Replication and SLT (SAP Landscape Transformation) Replication

SAP In-Memory database requires the replication of data from a source system. There are three methods of data replication from source system to SAP IMDB.

Trigger-Based Replication
If your source is ERP system then SAP recomments using SAP Landscape Transformation (SLT) Replcator. Source can also be non-SAP system. As name suggests it updates HANA system using database triggers.

While connecting to SAP source system Replication Server uses remote function call (RFC) network communication channels and for non-SAP source system it uses database connection. SAP HANA system and SAP LT Replication Server uses database connection for communication. Read more

Cascading Prompts or Nested Prompts

As name suggests they are nested prompts, one prompt after another or i can also say series of prompts which will narrow the end user selection. Prompt values are dependent on previous prompt value (user selected) and only the last value is used in query.

For example: Let’s say we have heirarchy – Country -> State -> City and you want user to select city based of country and state prompt then its time to use cascade prompts. Read more
